The Guntur Urban Police have unearthed a cricket betting racket in the town and arrested seven persons.
Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, Ch. Vijaya Rao said that the main accused, Bandaru Venkata Durga Anjaneya Prasad, 38, suffered losses in finance business.
Recently, he along with his friends Ch. Prasad, R. Srinivasa Rao and Sadu Srinivasa Rao took a house on rent, set up communication equipment, including communicator boxes, smart phones and screens, and began organising betting on cricket matches.
Based on information, the Arundelpet police and QRT teams raided the house, arrested the accused and recovered ₹1.08 lakh from them.
“Betting has emerged as the most dangerous pursuit which has been destroying individuals and families. We urge people in the town to pass on information about betting to police,” said Mr. Vijaya Rao.
The SP complimented DSP West K.G.V. Saritha, Arundelpet SHO Y. Srinivasa Rao and inspectors of the QRT team on the breakthrough.
