CHENNAI: City-based Jeppiaar Group of Institutions has got new kabaddi mats of Rs 25 lakh, which was sponsored by broadcast giant Star Sports. Anupam Goswami, commissioner of Pro Kabbadi League (PKL) and also the executive vice-president of Star Sports India handed over the mats to Regeena Jeppiaar, director Jeppiaar Group of Institutions as a reward to its school students who were the finalists in the Junior Pro Kabbadi League held in Mumbai.

Jeppiaar is one of the few educational institutions in Tamil Nadu which encourages sports in a big way. They conduct several sporting events throughout the year and has bought a team in the recently-concluded Table Tennis Super League-Tamil Nadu, where their team Jeppiar Smashers played in the semifinals.

Speaking on the occasion Tamil Thalaivas head coach K Bhaskaran said: “Though the country has young talents who aspire to become a kabbadi player or take up sport as a potent career option, there is no proper system lined up for them. As sports have become very competitive there is a need to have everything in place so that a young player who aspires to be a player knows the road map”.

Anupam Goswami said: “This is the golden opportunity for the players of Tamil Nadu and making the sport to the next level. Star Sports is delighted to do such wonderful initiatives. I congratulate the Jeppiaar school kids for making it to the junior pro kabbadi league, and now i wish them to win the next edition of junior pro kabbadi league.”
