Mike Kanellis was one of the most anticipated signings to the WWE back in June of last year, however, he hasn’t done much since making his debut with the professional wrestling powerhouse.
Kanellis (formerly known as Mike Bennett which is his real name) has been in the professional wrestling industry since 2002.
Over the years he has done work for promotions such as New England Championship Wrestling (NECW), Top Rope Promotions (TRP), and Ring Of Honor (ROH), which is where he really started to establish himself as a top star.
He has also worked for major promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and IMPACT Wrestling as well. Kanellis is a decorated tag team competitor as he has captured both the IWGP Tag Team Titles and ROH Tag Team Titles with his former partner Matt Taven.
In 2017 he decided to part ways with IMPACT Wrestling and instead, alongside his wife and former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis, signed with WWE for the first time in his career.
The pair debuted with a Power Of Love gimmick at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view (PPV) event before Kanellis entered a brief feud with Sami Zayn. He also had a few run-ins with Bobby Roode before taking some time off.
For the past several months Kanellis has been battling recovery from drug addiction and the WWE has given him some time off. Not to mention that Kanellis and his family are expecting their first child as well.
He recently participated at the Starrcade house show from North Carolina this past November. Since then not much of Kanellis has been seen on WWE programing.
Recently Kanellis responded to a fan on Twitter who asked about his status with the company and if we could expect to see him in the Royal Rumble match later this month.
This sparked a heated debate between Kanellis and several WWE fans on Twitter over whether or not his run with the company has been a failure. The exchange can be seen below:
What are your thoughts on Kanellis’ comments regarding his current run with the WWE? Would you consider his current run with WWE a failure? And how big could Kanellis be when he returns from recovering from his battle with drug addiction?
