NAGPUR: Badminton legend Prakash Padukone will be the chief guest of the GH Raisoni-SJAN Achievers Award function to be held on Sunday, November 5. The award function will be jointly organized by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Raisoni Group at Hotel Centre Point, Ramdaspeth, at 11.30 am.
Padukone was the first Indian to win the men’s singles title at the All England Badminton Championship. He was honoured with Arjuna Award in 1972 and Padma Shri in 1982. He runs the world-class Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru. The Bengaluru-based academy has been producing quality shuttlers for the last so many years. Several of them had represented the country in the junior and senior national squad.
SJAN hopes that his presence and words will inspire not only the awardees but also other sportspersons of the city to excel in their respective fields in the future.
SJAN and Raisoni Group confers total seven awards every year including senior and junior sportsperson in men’s and women’s categories, sports organizer, best school and best college. SJAN secretary Sandeep Dabhekar informed that the list of the awardees will be announced soon.
Last year, Vidarbha’s first Grand Master Swapnil Dhopade, yoga exponent Dhanshree Lekurwade, Vidarbha pacer Aditya Thakre, budding badminton star Ritika Thaker, Arvind Joshi (Ambedkar College), Delhi Public School and Ramdeobaba College of Engineering received the awards.
Baidyanath Ayurved Bhavan, Mahatma Gandhi High School, Centre Point School, Bank of Maharashtra and Deaven Dasture family are the co-sponsors of the event.
