Vulcan Town council discussed attending the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) fall convention during its Oct. 23 meeting.
The convention takes place Nov. 21-24 at the Calgary Telus Convention Centre.
“When you go participate in the sessions, you will learn a lot,” said Mayor Tom Grant.
“It’s an opportunity to network,” Grant added.
“We usually try and get together and visit either during the days or during the evenings.”
“They have a breakfast every morning before the sessions where everybody generally gets together as council and then you divide and conquer all the sessions so that you can come back and talk,” Fath said.
To stand out and make themselves more easily identifiable, Fath said they are gathering the Star Trek uniforms from past councillors for the current ones to wear.
“We won’t have time to get new uniforms before the conference,” Fath said
“Some people might say this is really hokey but I guarantee we make the press,” Grant said. “City of Calgary councillors will come visit with you because you’re from Vulcan.
“It’s a good connecting opportunity.”
Council unanimously approved the attendance of the councillors and mayor at the AUMA convention. All related expenses will be paid by the Town.
